In Moscow, every few months, new culinary schools or courses for non-professionals open, almost every restaurant on weekends teaches how to cook something, and new cafes and restaurants build open kitchens for themselves: today everyone wants to cook. Life around begins a series of reports from various culinary schools to understand who today wants to learn how to cook and why. The first issue is a meat workshop, which is open to men only, from the Cookin 'Men series at the Sisters Grimm restaurant.

Fifteen serious men are seated at a large snack table in a separate room. Tatyana, co-owner of “Sisters Grimm”, says that the cycle is designed exclusively for men, because women have to constantly refuse. Some activists buy tickets for husbands as gifts, and then come and follow what is happening from the next room. “Many participants are embarrassed that they don’t know how to cut meat, it’s somehow not comme il faut, therefore they agree to come only on condition that there will be no women,” Tatyana informs in a conspiratorial tone. And the truth: waiters work in the hall, cooks at the grill, a man with a beard takes off what is happening, only one important exception - two women are conducting a master class: Tatyana and Anna.

An ideal combination from the point of view of marketing: a spectacular woman in an open dress enthusiastically talks about different types of steaks, about how Chateaubriand differs from Ribeye, how to choose a fresh product. At the same time, pieces of selected beef constantly flash in her hands: “Why am I with meat? Because it’s beautiful! The main thing is to feel the product.” The sight is bewitching.
Despite the fact that Anna clearly knows what she is talking about, gender reservations are periodically heard in her speech: "Even I, a weak woman, do it very easily." The participants nod in the affirmative, one even tries to take notes. The teacher is supported by the famous epicurean Vlad Piskunov, who prefers to tell bicycles and argue with Anna on fundamental issues, for example, whether it is necessary to let the meat breathe before cooking. All the seats at the table are occupied, so I have to sit on a narrow window sill directly above the heating battery, and my attempt to go to the far corner, from where it is convenient to monitor the reaction of the participants, the manager immediately stops. An hour has already passed, and the faces of men remain the same unperturbed.
In the next room, occupied by watchful wives, the atmosphere is much more lively. Sveta gave her husband a birthday ticket for a master class and now hopes that he will practice at home. Her friend Camilla asked her man to come to provide moral support to a friend. Now the girls drink red wine together and order salads, since the grill, the main local attraction, is not available during the lesson. "When we arrived, Anna and Tatyana said that we had nothing to worry about: they are both married, nothing threatens our men."

After some twenty minutes, a man with the sonorous name of Seraphim is already setting me down at the table, and his friend Slava begins to literally feed him. The ice has broken, a velvet revolution has occurred in the gentleman's club. In the end, what is the point of carefully cutting meat and frying it over an open fire if there is no enthusiastic support group behind the wall?
