Carpet in the house: Pros and Cons

Life around announces a week at home and in everyday life. For five days, we will talk about how to equip your home, make budget repairs, deal with utility bills once and for all, and find beautiful home decoration.

For half a century, a carpet cult has existed in Russia. This traditionally eastern piece of furniture came into use even under Peter the Great, when the first domestic carpet manufactories appeared. Peter, as always, brought a new fashion from Europe, where carpets by that time were widespread in the homes of the aristocracy. So, mainly French masters worked at Russian manufactories, and they acquired carpets mainly from noble families.

However, the real era of carpet worship began in the USSR in the 1960-1970s and coincided with the mass construction of Khrushchevs: the walls in them were so thin that people had to urgently figure out how to escape from noise. Carpets came to the rescue. A good one cost from 500 rubles, and the average salary in the country was about 120-140 rubles. So the wall attribute soon became a symbol of prosperity of the owners - along with a crystal vase and a TV.

The presentability of carpets is a thing of the distant past, but we still try to remember what is good in them.

Pazyryk carpet - the oldest of the carpets known to mankind (V-VI century BC)

Behind

Soundproofing. The floor at rehearsal sites of famous music groups is often carpeted precisely because it absorbs sound perfectly and thus greatly facilitates the existence of neighbors.

Thermal insulation. The carpet keeps warm and warms on cold winter evenings. It is for these reasons that many of our compatriots carpet all surfaces in the apartment.

Disguise. On the carpet, dirt is much less noticeable than on linoleum or laminate: you can drop pasta or a piece of pizza on it - and forget about them for a couple of days. Irregularities in the wallpaper, children's art, holes in the wall - the carpet will easily take it upon itself.

Comfort. Even if bedlam reigns in the room, and the window is so dirty that it seems as if you are living on the Moscow-Vladivostok train, just put a cute little rug on the floor and it will immediately become more comfortable.

Vs

Dust. Remember what clouds of dust rise around the carpet when it is knocked out. They literally poison your life. Every year, 2-3 kilograms of dust are collected in and under the carpet. So a carpet in the house can lead to allergies, shortness of breath, and trouble sleeping.

Garbage. Carpets are 4,000 times dirtier than toilet seats, and seven times dirtier than almost any pedestrian street. And why? Because every hour an adult loses from 600 thousand to one and a half million keratinized skin particles. If you do not knock out the carpet for several years, from the particles stuck in it, it is quite possible to assemble a spare yourself.

Parasites. It’s better not to know how many small insects and microorganisms live in the carpet. Millions Studies by British scientists (normal, and not those who have derived the ideal sandwich formula) showed that in the carpet you can find anything: from Escherichia coli to bacteria that cause pneumonia. On the other hand, the chemicals used to process carpets are so toxic that they kill mice.

Fire hazard. Alas, in a fire, a fleecy friend breaks out first and instantly turns into 12 square meters of flame. A synthetic carpet in case of fire can poison the wearer with toxic smoke.

Smell. Carpets smell: sheep’s side, grandmother’s pantry, cigarette smoke, neighbors sour cabbage. Neither regular cleansing nor air fresheners can completely get rid of a cocktail of aromas.

If you still decide to get a carpet (well, or keep the one that grandfather gave mom and dad for the wedding), you should remember a few simple rules.

For a small room choose a carpet of bright colors - it is able to visually expand the space; carpets of dark colors, on the contrary, narrow it. Between the carpet and the walls there should always be at least 20-30 centimeters of free space.

The best bedroom to lay a carpet with a long pile - this will add heat; to the nursery - a carpet with a short pile: it is easier to remove dirt from it; in the hallway - a carpet on a rubber basis: it is more resistant to abrasion; on the carpet in the dining room should fully fit both the table and chairs.

Woven from natural wool the carpet should not smell like sheepskin: when properly manufactured, it is treated with antistatic and anti-allergens that kill odors. However, allergy sufferers should generally opt for synthetic carpets.

Vacuum carpet necessary at least once or twice a week - both on the front and on the wrong side. At least once or twice a year, a thorough dry cleaning should be carried out: for this, it is better to hand over the carpet to a cleaning company. Wet cleaning - only for certain areas of the carpet: for example, if you need to quickly remove the stain.

And finally, the most important thing: the place of the carpet is on the floor. It can be hung on the wall only if Persian craftsmen manually woven it from silk. A century of commercials in the XVI.
